Our Purpose

We are currently a church that is led by Elders & Deacons, with the preaching responsibilities handled by 3 of our members. We have intentionally established a rotation so that preaching is shared, and appreciate your support and encouragement to each of these men.

Through prayer and fasting, the leaders have decided to defer hiring a senior pastor at this time. We are focusing on strengthening our relationships with each other, getting deeper into the Word of God, following the Holy Spirit's guidance and equipping people to help our community.

To be an interdenominational church of believers practicing authentic Christian community, being equipped to maximize their destiny, and being released to impact the world with the love of Jesus Christ by the power of Holy Spirit.

Our History

Immanuel Church has been a light to the city of Wilmington since the late 19th century. The present church name began in the 1930's when two local bodies decided to come together into one. Formerly a downtown church, a new building was constructed in the late 1960's at Greenhill and Pennsylvania Avenues. Historic Immanuel has been a voice of hope to our community over the past 150 years.

Our Focus

Our church fellowship is a place where healthy and loving relationships are considered indispensable to spiritual formation and growth. Meeting people’s needs through strong, life-sharing relationships will always be more important than maintaining programs.
